What is Omotenashi?
In Japan, there is a deep-rooted culture, which comes from sado (tea ceremony), known as omotenashi. It is representing the Japanese attitude of hospitality centring around care instead of expectation. We believe the word “Omotenashi” was first discovered in the Heian period (794-1185). This is our Japanese traditional culture/doings that are passed down to next generations, just like our Ai Indigo dyeing techniques.
We at 45R, always incorporate Japanese sense of beauty to our stores. Welcoming our clients with warm greeting and smile as well as serving tea are our way to express “Kansha – Appreciation-“. Once you step into our stores, you will feel like you are transported in Japan!
Another “Omotenashi” we do is Furoshiki wrapping. This is another Japanese traditional where we gift wrap with cloth. Japanese Furoshiki wrapping has existed in Japan for over 1,200 years. It is important for us that we continue sharing this Japanese tradition to the rest of the world.
