45R Uptown store opened at Upper East Side, NY in 2022. Since then, we carry the most beautiful and unique pieces only exclusively at 45R Uptown, naming specifically the Ai Shokunin Collection.
Ai Indigo Shokunin Iroiro 45 Collection is divinely hand-dyed by our Ai Masters one single piece at a time.
Time, water, fields, the color of the “Ai”, and of course the thoughts and wishes of the artisans, vary from region to region. They are something very special and all hand-dyed from different islands in Japan.
Uniformly planted Ai Indigo Plants
Did you know the indigo dye used for our Ai Indigo Shokunin Iroiro 45 collection takes up to 100 days to make? The dye is made from Japanese indigo (Persicaria Tinctoria), a plant that has a short lifespan of a couple months only. Not only is the dye time consuming to make, materials such as thread takes two weeks of consistent dyeing (2 times per day!) to ensure the colour is rich and embedded. From start to finish, you can see how much effort is put into the production of each item by the masterful Shokunin.
